The Art and Science of Precious Metal Casting

Lost wax casting has been at the core of jewellery making for centuries, and as pioneers of lost wax casting in the UK, at Weston Beamor we continue to optimise and refine it to meet the demands of today’s trade. Whether your model begins as a hand-carved wax, a CAD file, or a 3D-printed resin, our process is designed to capture every detail and deliver a clean, accurate casting ready for finishing.

Each metal brings its own challenges. Platinum demands extreme temperatures and precise handling, while gold and silver require accuracy across multiple carats and colours. Even brass, often used for prototypes or alternatives, needs the right approach to create a smooth surface.

For our customers, this means fewer casting failures, consistent quality across every batch, and the freedom to design without compromise. By combining the skill of our craftspeople with advanced tools like high-resolution 3D printing and the latest casting machines, we ensure your designs are realised with precision — whether you’re creating a one-off bespoke piece or producing a full collection.

Specialised Metal Casting Services

Our precious metal casting process includes a variety of alloys, including Platinum, Gold, Silver and brass casting.

Platinum Casting

Platinum is one of the most demanding metals to cast. With a melting point of over 1,700°C and exceptional density, it requires specialist equipment and a skilled team to achieve consistent results. At Weston Beamor, we have decades of experience handling platinum, producing castings that capture fine details while retaining the strength and durability that makes this metal so valued.

Platinum’s natural whiteness and resistance to tarnish make it the metal of choice for bridal and luxury jewellery. Our expertise gives designers and retailers the confidence to offer platinum pieces knowing they will be faithfully reproduced and finished to the highest standard.

Gold Casting

Gold remains the cornerstone of fine jewellery, with a timeless appeal that spans centuries. At Weston Beamor, we cast gold in a wide range of carats and colours: 9ct, 14ct, 18ct and 22ct in yellow gold, with options for 9ct, 14ct and 18ct in both white, and rose. Our service also includes high palladium white gold alloys for customers seeking a brighter, whiter finish.

We also support the industry’s shift towards responsible sourcing, offering recycled gold and SMO gold to meet customer demand for traceability and ethics. Whether it’s for classic wedding bands, bold modern pieces, or bespoke commissions, our gold casting delivers the quality and consistency needed for both design and retail success.

Silver Casting

Silver is often seen as the most versatile of the precious metals. Affordable yet beautiful, it is widely used in both fine and fashion jewellery. We cast in recycled sterling silver and a specialist alloy, delivering results that balance accessibility with quality.

For customers, silver provides the flexibility to offer creative collections that are both commercially viable and appealing to a wide audience.

Brass Casting

Though not a precious metal, brass remains an important part of our casting service. It is often used for prototypes, and models, providing an affordable way to test designs or produce accessible pieces.

Our brass castings are clean, accurate, and finished to a high standard, making them ideal for both experimentation and commercial production. For customers who plan to plate brass pieces in precious metals, our process ensures a smooth, durable foundation.

Precious Metal Casting in Practice

Every project is different, but our approach is always consistent, guided by a process that covers every stage, from model preparation to final hallmarking.

Model Preparation

Designs can begin as hand-carved waxes, CAD files, or 3D-printed resin models.

Spruing & Investment

Burnout & Casting

The wax is burned away to leave a hollow mould, which is filled with molten metal under controlled conditions.

Finishing & Hallmarking

Castings are refined, polished, and hallmarked on-site by our Birmingham sub-assay office.

By keeping these steps under one roof, we reduce turnaround times and ensure consistency. Whether it’s platinum, gold, silver, or brass, our process is designed to give our customers dependable results and fewer production delays.

Sustainability and Responsibility

At Weston Beamor, sustainability runs through everything we do. We offer responsibly sourced materials such as recycled gold, and SMO gold, giving customers clear options with provenance.

Beyond materials, we reduce our environmental impact through energy-efficient production, including solar power, and by minimising transport miles with on-site hallmarking. Our supply chains are transparent, our workshops are safe and fair, and every member of our team is supported with real living wage pay.

For our customers, this doesn’t just mean jewellery made responsibly — it also strengthens the real stories they can share with their own customers, adding value and reassurance at point of sale and beyond.
