At Weston Beamor, we have always believed that the jewellery industry is more than just a marketplace; it is a community. For over seven decades, our reputation has been built on the foundations of quality, trust, and the meticulous craftsmanship of our experts. However, we recognise that the true strength of our sector lies in the people who dedicate their lives to it - from the apprentices at the bench to the retailers on the high street.

As part of our ongoing commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, we are proud to reaffirm our long-standing support for the Silversmiths & Jewellers Charity (SJC). This May, members of the Weston Beamor team will be heading to London for the SJC Annual Dinner, an evening dedicated to celebrating our trade while raising vital funds for those within our community who need it most.

A Vital Safety Net for Our Trade

The Silversmiths & Jewellers Charity occupies a unique and essential position within the UK jewellery sector. Unlike many national charities, the SJC is dedicated exclusively to our trade, providing a nationwide safety net for manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers alike.

Through regular financial support and one-off grants, the charity assists current and retired employees - or their spouses - who find themselves facing hardship due to illness, disability, or poverty. In an industry that prides itself on luxury and brilliance, it is a sobering reality that many who have given a lifetime of service can fall through the cracks of the state benefit system.

The charity’s work is underpinned by the poignant words of novelist Anthony Powell: “Growing old is like being increasingly penalised for a crime you haven’t committed.” The SJC works tirelessly to ensure that for those in our trade, old age and ill health do not lead to a loss of dignity or comfort.

A Night of Celebration and Purpose

On Friday 1st May 2026, the industry will gather at the magnificent RAC Club on Pall Mall for the SJC Annual Dinner. It is set to be an elegant evening of fine dining and superb wines in one of London’s most iconic settings.

This year, the entertainment is set to be a highlight, featuring The Princes of Motown. Created by former Drifter and X Factor finalist Pierre Herelle, this West End collective promises a high-energy performance that will have the room on its feet.

But beyond the glamour and the Motown hits, the evening serves a much deeper purpose. As donations from the trade have seen a decline in recent years, events like the Annual Dinner are critical. They provide the necessary funding to allow the SJC to continue its work, governed by a dedicated Council of Trustees including industry stalwarts from The Goldsmiths’ Company.

"Our industry is built on craftsmanship, but its heart is its people," says Naomi Newton-Sherlock, Director at Weston Beamor. "Supporting the Silversmiths & Jewellers Charity is not just a corporate responsibility for us; it is a personal one. At Weston Beamor, we see the incredible talent and dedication that goes into every piece of jewellery created in the UK. Ensuring that there is a support system in place for our colleagues during their most difficult times is essential for a sustainable and compassionate industry. We are honoured to attend the Annual Dinner and contribute to such a vital cause."

Weston Beamor and HM Precious Metals: A Global Vision with Local Heart

Since becoming part of HM Precious Metals in 2017, Weston Beamor has grown as part of a global family that employs over 1,500 staff across nine countries. Being one of the largest precious metal processors worldwide gives us a unique perspective on the importance of social governance.

While we operate on a global scale, our roots remain firmly planted in the UK trade. Our commitment to ESG is not just about reducing our environmental footprint or ensuring ethical sourcing; it is about the 'Social' - investing in the community that sustains us. By supporting the SJC, we are helping to protect the human heritage of the British jewellery industry.

How You Can Help

The SJC relies heavily on the generosity of the trade. While the Goldsmiths’ Company remains a chief benefactor, the charity must compete with high-profile national causes. If you are unable to attend the dinner at the RAC Club, we encourage you to consider how you or your business might support their mission.

Attend the Events: Whether it is the Annual Dinner in May or the Golf Day in September, these events are a fantastic way to network while giving back.

Direct Donations: Every contribution, no matter the size, goes directly toward helping a colleague in need.

Raise Awareness: Ensure your staff and retired colleagues know that the SJC is there for them should they ever face hardship.
